Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
Despite the changing weather conditions, the KGV Sports Day events were a huge success with so many students participating and enjoying the occasion. It was wonderful to see a number of proud parents attend as well, and these events capture the house spirit and community that is so important to KGV. Xanthe Knight and the PE team do an extraordinary job to make these events so vibrant and engaging, and I would like to thank them for providing these opportunities for our students.
Our Parent Engagement sessions continued this week, with focus points ranging from providing feedback on our approaches to assessment, Year 9 option processes, and how to support Y12 and Y13 students in their learning. These workshops provide an opportunity to gain further insight to your child’s experience at KGV, and how you can support at home. We are continuing to build this programme and details can be found on this link - Workshop calendar.
We are rapidly approaching an exciting time of year, with Challenge Week starting on Monday 3rd November. This experiential learning opportunity is a key part of our curriculum, and it provides students with the chance to explore different activities, develop key skills and continue to build their sense of belonging at KGV. The Challenge Week website provides details of each activity, and I would encourage conversations at home that focus on being well-prepared and what your child hopes to gain from what is sure to be an engaging week.
Thank you for your ongoing support and have an enjoyable weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark

Year 10 & 11 Message
Sports day was wonderful on Wednesday despite the cool and damp weather. Students were engaged in healthy competition. Congratulations to Rowell for accumulating the most points throughout the day.
Challenge Week begins at the end of next week. Our first trip away is 53 Year 11 Spanish language students flying to Madrid. Please make sure you can access the webpage for your child's activity and help them prepare equipment and get organised for the week.
Assembly next Tuesday will focus on preparing students for Challenge week and updating Year 11 students about the options choice process.
On Monday, we spent an hour with Year 11 students helping them understand the options process for their Year 12/13 courses. Year 11 students are considering this now and have access to detailed information in Lione. They can ask for advice from any member of the Year 10/11 or 12/13 team. Parents can sign up for the Year 11 options presentation scheduled for next Thursday 30th at 5pm.
On Monday, we also spent an hour with our Year 10 students, focusing on how they can get the most out of their Year 10/11 course, along with advice for revision, study and time management.
Next week is Spirit week for Crozier and Rowell with all students wearing PE kit next Friday.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Year 12 Parent Workshop held on Wednesday was a great success, and we extend a huge thank you to all the parents who were able to attend and engage with the material. We also offer our sincere thanks to Mr. Chris Wightman (IB Coordinator) and Mr. Jack Chappell (IBCP/BTEC Coordinator) for running such an informative session. The workshop provided a comprehensive overview of the course on offer in the Senior School, covering the structure and timings of Year 12/13, an explanation of the assessment system, and how the school shares student progress data, such as LIONEL, ALIS, and MLO metrics. A major focus was on sharing essential study and revision techniques—including effective time management strategies, the importance of avoiding multitasking, and various revision methods like spaced practice and using prompt cards—to help students reach their academic potential.
For those who were unable to attend, the presentation slides are available, offering key insights into the IBDP and IBCP/BTEC programs, recent student matriculation successes , and guidance on how parents can support their child's learning at home, including advice on the effective use of AI as an academic tool.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend

According to Centre for Health Protection (CHP), the local seasonal influenza activity has continued to increase recently. As a community, we must heighten vigilance and take appropriate personal protection measures against influenza and other respiratory infections.
Recently, there has been an increase in cases observed at KGV. To prevent the spread of illness, we kindly ask the parents to keep their child at home for treatment and observation if they have any of these symptoms:
• Fever (tympanic temperature is higher than 37.5°C )
• Vomiting
• Diarrhoea
• Frequent congested or croupy cough
• Very stuffy or runny nose with yellowish or greenish discharge
• Pink eye with abnormal secretion
It is of utmost importance that children with fever, regardless of the presence of respiratory symptoms, are not allowed to attend school. This measure is critical in preventing outbreaks of influenza and other respiratory infections. ESF fever policy states a student must be fever free for 48 hours before returning to school. When a student no longer has any fever (without the help of medicine), you can begin to count 48 hours (two complete days). When this 48 hour is up, your child can return to school.
KGV continue deep Increased cleaning and sanitization of high-touch surfaces throughout the school. We will continue to monitor our school's sickness level closely and liaise with the CHP if necessary.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school nurse. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation in keeping our school community safe.
