Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
Over the past week, I have seen so many smiles as our students engage in such a wide range of activities during Challenge Week. It has been wonderful to hear stories of fun and enjoyment as they have tried something new, as well as demonstrating the perseverance and resilience that is needed when they encounter difficulties, whether in Hong Kong or overseas. I hope you enjoy listening to the stories your child brings home as they reflect on the skills they develop and the experiences they had during Challenge Week.
This time of year also brings the opportunity to celebrate the remarkable achievements of our students. We have the Colours Awards assemblies next week, as well as our 101st Speech Day where I look forward to hearing such a wide range of success stories.
We are also moving closer to our first Learning Review days, which start on Friday 21st November. These start with Year 7,8,9,10 and 12. Learning Reviews provide the opportunity to gain further insight to your child’s progress and plan forward for their next steps in learning. Please look out for further information early next week.
Next week will also be our winter uniform transition week, where students will wear ties. It is important that they continue to wear their uniform with the pride that comes with being a KGV student. Ties can be purchased from the KGV PTSA shop, and here is the link to our current uniform expectations.
Thank you for your continued support and have an enjoyable weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum

Year 13 Message
Our Year 13 students recently wrapped up a truly memorable and transformative Challenge Week! This annual event is designed to move beyond the traditional classroom setting, offering experiences that foster independence, resilience, and personal development as they near graduation.
The week was packed with dynamic and diverse activities, ensuring every student had a chance to step outside their comfort zone. They honed new skills through creative pursuits like street photography, learned critical life skills in self-defense workshops, and bonded over a game of student assassin.
A major highlight of the week was an inspirational and highly insightful presentation by Dr. Jared Cooney Horvath. A world-renowned neuroscientist, educational consultant, and author, Dr. Horvath is celebrated for his ability to translate complex brain research into practical strategies for learning and life.
Dr. Horvath’s session captivated our students as he explored the science of learning, focusing on how the brain processes information, forms memories, and adapts to challenges. He delivered a powerful and compelling message: we are the architects of our own destiny. He stressed the crucial role of "mental stories"—the narratives we construct about our abilities and potential—in shaping our future outcomes. His work emphasises that understanding how we learn is just as important as what we learn, offering students tangible, research-backed tools to optimise their study habits and approach the final stages of their academic journey with confidence.
Challenge Week successfully balanced tackling important academic priorities with providing invaluable bonding experiences. To cap off a week of intense engagement and learning, the students enjoyed a day at Disneyland today, creating shared memories that will undoubtedly last a lifetime.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all our KGV teachers who support the Senior Students for their dedication and guidance throughout this year's Challenge Week—your enthusiasm truly made a difference! We would also like to express our gratitude to you, the parents, for your consistent and unwavering encouragement, which helps make these deeply enriching experiences possible. We hope your child will treasure the growth, skills, and memories gained for years to come!

At KGV, we value open communication with parents and I would like to take this opportunity to remind our community of the approaches we should take:
If you have a question or an issue you would like to discuss, please email your child’s teacher in the first instance. They will aim to reply to you within 2 working days. If you do not receive a response, please contact office@kgv.edu.hk so we can follow up.
If you are unsure who to contact, please email office@kgv.edu.hk and we will direct your message to the relevant teacher.
There may be times when you would like to meet a teacher. Please ensure you make an appointment and register at either the security guard post or reception. They will give you a visitor badge to wear and the teacher will greet you at reception.
It is important to note that we cannot accommodate meetings without a prior appointment.
Thank you for your support with these approaches.
