Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
I recognise the tragic events happening in Tai Po may continue to affect our children and wider community over the coming days and weeks. The support and care we provide for each other is so important, and it is this sense of togetherness that helps us through this. Your children may continue to ask questions about the fire, and please refer to the email I sent on Thursday if you need support with these conversations.
I know there is a strong desire from the KGV community to provide support for those affected. Our Charity and Community Services committee have reached out to various organizations regarding how we can support those affected by the fire. Many organizations have noted they have received generous supplies; therefore, KGV has decided to focus on fundraising efforts instead. To this end, we will dedicate our end of term fundraising efforts for the Tai Po Fire Tragedy. All funds raised will be donated to the Hong Kong Red Cross.
Many students are also asking about how else they may help. We will continue to seek out future volunteering opportunities as the residents of Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po work to rebuild their community.
We have also decided to suspend our Winter Festival for this year. We believe this is a necessary step to ensure our actions reflect our deepest condolences and solidarity with all who are grieving. I will also keep you updated regarding our plans for other events as we move towards the end of term.
Best wishes,
Mark

Year 12 & 13 Message
Year 13 Mock Exams: Preparing for the Future
The Year 13 students will be sitting their 'Mock' Exams in the initial two weeks of Term 2. This is always an important milestone, and we appreciate that it is a natural point of conversation among families.
We want to clearly define the role and structure of these exams:
A Checkpoint, Not the Finish Line: The exams are written to test the knowledge and understanding gained from the material covered so far. While most focus on completed units, a few subjects where the course is complete may test all content.
Practice for the Big Day: They are designed to follow the exact format and style of the final IBDP examinations, offering invaluable practice in a high-stakes environment.
Powerful Feedback for Students: The results are designed to tell students exactly what they know, understand, and can confidently do right now. It's a snapshot of their progress.
Guiding Our Teaching: The outcomes are essential for our teachers. They use the data to pinpoint areas where the class might need more support, revision, or dedicated re-teaching.
Contributing to predicting grades: The Mock results are a key component—among many other assessments—that helps us make accurate and fair judgments about a student's likely achievement level.
A reminder that school is closed on Tuesday to allow for our Learning Reviews for Year 7-12; Year 13 Learning Reviews will take place after the Mock Examinations in Term 2.
Have a lovely weekend

Year 10 & 11 Message
Year 11 Mock exams will be from Monday, January 12 to Friday, 23 January. Students may have more than one exam on some days. Students will be on study leave during this time. They only need to attend school for their exams, but can choose to come every day to use our study facilities. Mock exams are internal and provide useful feedback for students. We treat these exams the same way as the finals so that students get used to the procedures, but they are practice exams only. Please keep a close eye on your child and help them maintain a proper perspective on these exams where necessary. Here is the schedule for the two week period.
Year 11 Final exams begin in late April. You can see the dates for all exams on this spreadsheet. The final day of timetabled lessons for Year 11 will be Wednesday, 22nd April. From that point on, students are on study leave. They can revise and prepare at home or at school.
Year 10 Yellis test results. I used a mail merge to email your child's Yellis test results to parents on Thursday morning. The title of the email is "KGV Yellis test results". The email contains the test scores, a description of the Yellis test categories and an AI analysis of what their results mean for them and how you can support their development at home.
Congratulations to Eric Bae in Y11, who won an excellence award for outstanding work in the Mentor-Mentee Programme organised by the Korean Association of Hong Kong, which pairs Korean professors in Hong Kong with youth for one-on-one mentorship.
Next week, students are involved in house assemblies as our year-long house competition draws to a conclusion.

As you may be aware, the KGV pitch will be resurfaced to ensure we maintain the best possible facilities for our students. This means the field will be closed from January to the end of this academic year. The aim is for the pitch to re-open in August for the start of next academic year.
The PE team re-organised their curriculum throughout this year to ensure all students continue to be engaged in a variety of activities and can continue to make appropriate progress. Our CAS and Sports team have also worked to ensure access to different facilities and activities during term 2 and 3. More information will be shared soon.
The Pavilion changing rooms will also be renovated. This means students will need to wear their PE kit all day when they are timetabled for PE lessons. The expectation is they wear the KGV PE kit, with winter options also available during cold weather. Please see the uniform website for more information.
Thank you for your understanding and I will share further updates as the resurfacing and renovations progress.
End of Term Arrangements
The last day of this term will be Friday 12th December. This will be an early closure and students will finish at 12 pm. School buses will depart by 12.15 pm.
This will be a dress casual day, with funds raised being donated to the HK Red Cross to support those affected by the Tai Po fire.
