Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
The spirit of togetherness and community has continued this week. It has been wonderful to see so many families join us for our rescheduled EOMD and Winter Concert. Being able to provide a showcase for our talented students helped to create an enjoyable end of term, with the exceptional performances lifting the spirits of everyone involved.
Our fundraising efforts continued throughout the week, and the contributions of our parent community and the PTSA are very much appreciated. Some student groups have also started to volunteer to support the Tai Po community and we will continue to support in the new year.
Looking ahead to the start of next term, please be reminded the KGV field will be closed for renovations until August. This will include renovation of the Pavilion Changing Room. On days where students are timetabled for PE lessons, they will need to remain in KGV PE kit for the whole day.
The Y11 and Y13 groups will also have mock exams in January, and I hope they are able to take some breaks in between revision sessions over the holidays.
The first term of each academic year is a long and tiring one for all students, and I am sure they are ready to relax and enjoy the festive period with families and friends. During this time, I would encourage each student to reflect on their successes and consider how they have made strides forward to be their own remarkable. They should be proud of their achievements and reflective on areas for further growth.
Thank you for your support throughout this term, and I wish you and your families an enjoyable festive season.
Best regards,
Mark
It has been another incredible week of fundraising for victims of the Tai Po fire. Our students have engaged maturely and enthusiastically.
The Music concert, EOMD and interhouse cross-country have also been running this week, so it has been a busy and lively campus.
We wish all families a restful break and look forward to seeing students again on Monday, January 5th.
I have had a few concerning conversations this week with students worried about the Year 11 Mock exams. I shared the message below with all Y11 students yesterday. Please help your child to keep these internal practice tests in perspective so they are able to use them constructively to build towards the final exams.
Dear Year 11. It's important that you keep the mock exams in perspective. They are practice tests for you. Please treat them as a chance to test yourself and get feedback from your teachers. They will help you:
The feedback will help you prepare for your finals.
We're aware that some students get stressed and anxious about mocks.
We want you to take them seriously and prepare well. That way, you'll get good feedback, and the revision will help with your learning. But remember, they are just for practice.
Over the break, you should be doing regular revision, but also making sure you get rest, exercise, sleep and eat healthily.

Year 12 & 13 Message
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we reach this much-deserved winter break, it’s a great chance to pause and reflect on what has been a truly lively and engaging term for our senior students.
The unique character of KGV—that blend of valuing our history while driving forward with ambition—is clearest when you look at our Year 12s and 13s. Their commitment has been genuinely inspiring, whether it’s through the focused effort they put in every day in class, the fantastic leadership they show across school events, or the mature discussions they're having about university and their future paths. Every learning experience they jump into highlights the incredible potential they hold.
We know the senior school journey is a real team effort. Our dedicated teachers, the amazing Higher Education Team, and our support staff have worked tirelessly to provide the high level of teaching and emotional support that our Year 12s and 13s rely on. We are also grateful for the strong partnership we share with you, our parents, as we all work together to guide your young adults through these pivotal, exciting years.
A Focus on Examinations and the Break
For our Year 13 students, the break arrives at a critical juncture. I want to wish them all the very best of luck with their preparations for the mock exams in January. These exams are an essential stepping stone, offering crucial feedback that will inform their final steps towards the summer examinations.
My sincere hope is that all our senior students can achieve a crucial balance over the next few weeks:
Enjoying quality time with family and friends.
Resting and recharging for the intense term ahead.
Revising consistently and strategically for their upcoming assessments.
We know that a well-rested mind is a more effective one. We encourage them to plan their time carefully to ensure they return in January feeling refreshed and ready to tackle the final half of the academic year.
Have a wonderful festive season, and I look forward to seeing the students return for the start of Term 2 on Monday 5th January.
Warm regards,

Term 1 Reports for Y11 and Y13
The term 1 summary report is now available in Lionel.
The report summarises assessment grades and academic data for term 1.
Access the report from the ESF App.
App > CCF > Progress Checks
For students sitting mock exams in January, a report dedicated to those results and personalised feedback to help prepare for final exams will follow in February.
For those families who did not meet with teachers already, Learning reviews will be available following the mock exams.
Following an immensely eventful and enjoyable term 1 for CAS Activities, it would be great to see an equivalent level of enthusiasm for the term 2 programs. There are still several CAS activities with available spaces that started in Term 1 and will continue into Term 2, so please ensure the students sign up. Allocation is happening early in the first week back after the Christmas break, so please see some notes about what happens next:
Fees for the above activities are listed in the description. You will be notified on how to pay the provider to secure the spot.
Remember to check the KGV CAS Activities website for all things related to the activities program (KGV CAS Website). Information about how to sign up, withdrawal, allocation and parental approval can be found here.
Please note: Due to the upcoming pitch closure across Terms 2 and 3, the CAS program has made adjustments. This means that some development programs will not run during these terms, and training for certain sports may have to take place off-site. Students impacted by these necessary changes will be notified directly, and all relevant information will be shared with them and also made available on Lionel.
Finally, I would like to thank parents for your support in allowing students to take part in the CAS program. I would also welcome any feedback or suggestions you have to improve the CAS Program by identifying particular activities that you would like to see offered at KGV.

School Reference for Potential Exit & Summer Programmes
Due to student privacy protocols, we require parental consent before releasing student information to external organisations. Please complete this form to make a formal request. Requests will only be processed upon receipt of parental permission.
KGV’s standard lead time for teachers to prepare references is four working weeks from the date parental permission is received.
This process does not apply to higher education applications (i.e. university admissions). Those references are managed separately by the H.E. Team.
Gifted & Talented Programmes
Students interested in external extension programmes for specifically designed for gifted & talented students outside of KGV should refer to this website for guidance: https://sites.google.com/kgv.hk/kgv-extension-opportunities, instead of using the request form.
The KGV H.E. Team wishes you all a Happy Festive Season!

YEAR 13
The H.E. Team has been busy supporting our Year 13 students for their university applications since the beginning of Term 1, including regular reminders to students about internal and external deadlines
UCAS – Internal deadline for students to complete their UCAS applications was 21 Nov. This would allow the H.E. Team to check student submissions and prepare all necessary documents before the UCAS equal consideration deadline on 14 Jan 2026. Any UCAS applications submitted and paid after 21 Nov will be processed by the H.E. Counsellors within seven school days after student’s submission.
Application to other countries: If students plan to submit any university applications during the term break, it is crucial that students inform their H.E. counsellor of the following details by the end of school day on Thu, 11 Dec:
- University Name and Programme
- Student’s Deadline
- Counsellor’s Deadline (i.e., the deadline for any supporting documents from the school)
YEAR 12
Smart Head Start for Your Post-Secondary Pathways: We shared with students and parents a checklist (attached) of activities to be completed over the term break. Completing the checklist will put students in an excellent position when we return in Term 2.

Additionally, many HKSSF sports are underway, including Badminton, Football, Volleyball, Beach Volleyball and senior boys and girls hockey.
Looking Ahead To Term 2 and 3: Training and Facilities
The next two terms will present significant challenges as the school field is being replaced, resulting in the loss of access to our field and hard court area. This means that some trainings and matches will need to be taken off-site and our development programmes will be reduced.
Students involved in teams will be informed of specific arrangements as soon as they are confirmed. We understand this requires flexibility, but we will persevere and continue to provide the best possible sporting opportunities for all our students. We look forward to the opening of the new turf!
We wish everyone an enjoyable Chrstmas break and look forward to more sporting success in the coming terms.
