Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
Our students have enjoyed a particularly festive week, with our Lunar New Year decorations helping to create a special atmosphere around the campus. It has been great to see our students engaged in a wide range of cultural activities including dumpling making and the Y9 Chinese Cultural Fair. Our Lunar New Year assembly also showcased so many extraordinary student performances, reflecting how our community values Chinese culture. I would like to thank Joyce Yang, our Head of Chinese, and the wider Chinese department for providing these important cultural opportunities for our students.
We also enjoyed so many fantastic student performances during Lion Rock on Thursday, and it was wonderful to see parents come along to support the event. providing another showcase for our talented musicians.
As you may be aware, Gayle Marshall is seconded to KGV as part of an ESF role swap programme, with Kiely Murphy moving to Island School. This has been a great success with both Gayle and Kiely enjoying their new Vice Principal portfolios, enabling them to continue to develop as senior leaders. As a result of the success of this programme, I am delighted to announce that Gayle Marshall will continue in her capacity as Vice Principal at KGV and will become a permanent member of our staff. I am sure you will join me in congratulating Gayle, and wishing Kiely all the best in her position at Island School.
A quick reminder that school resumes on Monday 23rd February, and this will be the second afternoon of Y11 and Y13 Learning Reviews. This means students will leave campus at 1.25 pm.
Thank you for your support throughout this term and it is the strong home-school partnership that creates the foundations of success for your children. I wish you and your families a successful and prosperous start to the Year of the Horse. Kung Hei Fat Choi!
Best wishes,
Mark
Students were in a festive mood today with no uniform and many wearing colours and clothing to fit our New Year celebrations.
Lion Rock last night was a wonderful showcase of confidence and talent across the school. It was great to see Year 10 and 11 students and families taking part.
We finished early today with a wonderful Lunar New Year celebration watched by the whole school. We hope that all our students and families enjoy a one-week break after a very busy 6 weeks.
Everyone is back in school for Monday, 23rd February. Again, we will switch lunch break and period 4 so we don't miss any learning, but we can finish early to allow Year 11 and 13 students and teachers to set up for an afternoon of Learning Reviews.
Year 11 mock reports were released this week. These summarise all grades earned during the mocks and personalised feedback from their teachers. During tutor time, they continue to be guided through a process of reflection on their mock exam performance and using that to set revision and organisational goals in the lead up to their final exams. At the same time, they are considering option choices for Year 12 carefully.
For all students, we continue to focus on attendance and punctuality. We know learning progress is affected by lateness and absence, so we are following up with students and families where data suggests this might be an issue.
Kung Hei Fat Choi.

Year 12 & 13 Message
A New Chapter and a Festive Break
As the campus fills with the vibrant red and gold of our Lunar New Year decorations and the echoes of our festive assembly fade, we officially enter one of the most important periods in our school calendar. For our senior students, this week is more than just a holiday; it is a vital breathing space—a moment to catch your breath before the final ascent of the academic year.
For our Year 13s, the finish line is in sight, with just six weeks of classes remaining when we return. My advice is to approach this break in two stages: rest deeply first. You cannot sprint on an empty tank, and true recovery is essential for the push ahead. Once recharged, use the final days of the break to tackle one specific academic challenge or "mountain" you’ve been meaning to climb. This will ensure you return to campus with the momentum needed for your final weeks of secondary school. For Year 12, use this time to reflect on your journey so far and ensure your foundations are firm for the busy term ahead.
On a personal note, I am absolutely delighted to share that Mr. Poulsum has formally announced that my secondment to KGV has been made permanent. I am thrilled to be staying with you as your Vice Principal. I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the students, parents, and staff for the incredibly warm welcome you have given me. I truly feel part of the KGV family and look forward to supporting our senior students through to their graduation and beyond.
I wish all our families a prosperous, healthy, and restful Year of the Horse.
Kung Hei Fat Choi!

The Music Department is now accepting auditions for the Music Academy programme for both Year 7 and Year 8 students. Students accepted into the programme will join the Music Academy class starting in the next academic year (August 2026).
The Music Academy programme is designed to support gifted and talented students who demonstrate strong musical ability and a high level of commitment. Students typically hold at least a Grade 4 qualification on their instrument, however, a student’s passion for music and demonstrated potential are considered more important.
Students enrolled in the Music Academy will study Music as their sole creative arts subject. This means they will drop other arts subjects (e.g. Media, Art, and Drama) in order to focus exclusively on Music.
Thank you to parents and students who attended the Music Academy information presentation on Tuesday. For those who were unable to attend, the presentation slides are available at the following link.
Please note that both the audition and the application form must be submitted by 10 March.
If you have any questions regarding the Music Academy programme, please contact Ms Melody Leung at melody.leung@kgv.edu.hk .
