Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
Having an engaged, thriving and supportive PTSA is so important to the KGV Community. Throughout this term, there have been a number of events and occasions where we have benefitted from the input of our PTSA Committee.
The recent PTSA Women’s Empowerment workshop for students, teachers and parents was a great example of this support. This provided the opportunity for our community to listen to and benefit from the guidance of Alia Eyres, former CEO of Mother’s Choice and now CEO of the Typhoon Group.
Our PTSA is also active in looking at different approaches to supporting our students, particularly in terms of their wellbeing. This year, there will be ‘study care’ packs distributed to our Y11 and Y13 students. By providing these gestures of support and encouragement, our students will get a boost as they start study leave for their exams.
A third example is the Staff Appreciation lunch. This annual event, which will happen on Wednesday 25th March, is always highly anticipated by our staff. The generous donations of food from our parent community bring a smile to our staff and shows recognition for the work they do throughout the year.
Whilst these events are organised by the PTSA committee, I recognise they could not happen without contributions from all our parent community. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the parent community for their ongoing support for our students and appreciation of our staff.
A brief reminder that school term ends on Friday 27th March, and we will finish at our usual time of 3.20pm. Looking ahead to next term, students will return to school on Tuesday 14th April, with staff having a professional development day on Monday 13th.
Have an enjoyable weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
This week, we enjoyed the incredible Interhouse music competition. This is a special moment at KGV as our talented students compete in good spirits for their houses and the whole school is entertained and uplifted.
TEDx ran on Wednesday evening with students bravely presenting before an audience in the hall. It was a celebration of diverse and challenging thought and the result of great student planning, work and leadership.
Next week we have the Year 13 BTEC & IB Art exhibition in the hall from Wednesday afternoon. I hope students will be energised and stimulated by the display of creative ideas.
Next Friday is the last day of term. It is a casual dress day, and students will enjoy the finals of Interhouse Music. Money raised next week through charity events is for the Cancer fund and the nominated school charities. School will finish at 3.20 pm as normal on Friday.
Year 11 will return for regular classes after the Spring break. Their last day of classes will be Wednesday, 22nd April. From that point, they are on study leave. Timetabled classes cease and students can choose to study at home or in the LRC at school. Subject teachers will continue to be available at the times classes would have taken place and students can meet with them so long as they contact them ahead of time.
A full and detailed examination timetable along with our exam information pack will be issued next week.
Years 7 | 8 | 9
Please find below updates regarding our upcoming week of giving, important charity dates, and the sign-up process for Term 3 activities.
Week of Giving and Celebration: 23rd - 27th March
Next week, KGV will be hosting a Week of Giving and Celebration. Throughout the week, we will be holding a Snack Sale alongside Art Commissions to support our community. All proceeds from these initiatives will be donated to the Cancer Fund. Payments for these items can be made by either Cash or Octopus.
Dress Casual and Wear a Hat Day: Friday, 27th March
To wrap up our week of giving, we will hold a Dress Casual and Wear a Hat Day on Friday, 27th March.
Wear a Hat Day has been a cherished KGV tradition since 2011, held in memory of Mr Ian Leatham to raise funds for charity. We invite all students to don their best hats and bring a $20 cash donation, which will be collected during tutor time. Prizes will also be awarded for the most creative and impressive hats seen on the day.
Term 3 CAS Activity Program
The sign-up period for our Term 3 CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) program will begin soon. Please ensure you and your child review the available options before the deadline:
Monday, 23rd March: Sign-ups for Term 3 open
Sunday, 12th April: Sign-ups for Term 3 close
Thank you for your continued support of our school charities and for helping us maintain these meaningful traditions.
Year 12 & 13 Message
This week, our campus was filled with the incredible energy of the Interhouse Music Competition. It is always a special moment at KGV to see our students compete with such good spirits, representing their houses with pride. The performances were truly uplifting, showcasing the diverse talents of our student body and providing a wonderful sense of community and entertainment for the entire school.
Year 13 Art Exhibition Next week, we invite you to be inspired by the creative achievements of our senior students. The Year 13 BTEC & IB Art Exhibition will be held in the hall starting on Wednesday afternoon. This is a culmination of significant hard work and personal expression; we hope students and visitors alike will be energised by the innovative ideas and artistic dedication on display.
The Final Stretch for Year 13
Next Friday marks a significant milestone: the last day of Term 2. It will be a casual dress day, with students gathering to enjoy the much-anticipated finals of the Interhouse Music competition.
Most poignantly, Friday will also be the last day of formal classes for our Year 13s. As they approach this "final countdown," we want to celebrate their journey and the remarkable maturity they have shown.
Charity Support: All money raised through next week’s charity events will support the Cancer Fund and other nominated school charities.
Logistics: School will finish at the normal time of 3.20 PM on Friday.
Looking Ahead: Year 13 students will return to school on Tuesday, 14th, and Wednesday, 15th April, and will officially commence Study Leave on Thursday, 16th April. During this period, students have the agency to choose the environment that best suits their revision needs—whether that is studying at home or utilising the LRC at school as a quiet, focused space. Please be assured that subject teachers remain fully available during their regularly scheduled class times to provide guidance and feedback. We only ask that students contact their teachers ahead of time to arrange these meetings.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend

School References & Grade Summary
Due to student privacy protocols, we require parental consent before releasing student information to external organisations. Please complete this form to make a formal request. Requests will only be processed upon receipt of parental permission.
KGV’s standard lead time for teachers to prepare references is four working weeks from the date parental permission is received.
This process does not apply to higher education applications (i.e. university admissions). Those references are managed separately by the H.E. Team.
Gifted & Talented Programmes
Students interested in external extension programmes for specifically designed for gifted & talented students outside of KGV should refer to this website for guidance: https://sites.google.com/kgv.hk/kgv-extension-opportunities, instead of using the request form.
Higher Education & Careers
KGV Higher Education & Careers website. This site, managed and constantly updated by our H.E. Team, hosts a wealth of information on higher education resources, events, enrichment/summer programmes, scholarships, and other opportunities. This can serve as a first step for research. Check it out.
Year 13 – Exit Presentation for Students (in-person on 17 Mar) & (Parents (online on 24 Mar, 13:00). The HE Team presented to our Y13 students on Tue, 17 Mar, about procedures on accepting offers and our support upon exam result release, including subscribing to IB Result service and updating their application and offer details on to their Unifrog accounts.
The IB Result Service, coordinated by our Exam Office, is the most secured, most efficient and official way to have final results sent to students’ choices of institutions. Having application and offer details on their Unifrog account is a way that students give KGV their consent to send their confidential documents to support their applications, in the most efficient manner.
A parent session is planned at 13:00 on Tue, 24 Mar. The meeting link will be shared on 23 Mar.
Year 12 – Tutor Group meeting with H.E. Counsellors. Individual tutor groups meeting with their H.E. Counsellors have concluded last week.
