Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
I hope this message finds you well. We certainly returned to school in a positive and focused way, including the classes about to start study leave ahead of their exams. Students enjoyed their ‘Y11 Formal’ and this provided the opportunity to celebrate the completion of 5 years at KGV. Year13 students had their last day before study leave on Wednesday. This was a day where many memories were shared, and that strong sense of belonging came to the fore. It is always a special moment when the whole of the student community comes together to wish the graduating class every success in their upcoming exams. Good luck to each and every Year 11 and 13 student over the next few weeks, I am sure they will enjoy every success.
For other year groups this becomes a critical time as they progress towards the end of the academic year. Having strong and consistent routines will be key to their success as they move through this term. This will include key areas such as:
Self-organisation - checking their timetable and packing bags the night before, regularly checking homework deadlines, emails and student bulletin notices.
Punctuality - being in school before 8.10 am and arriving at each lesson on time.
Engagement - ensuring they actively engage with their teachers. They should ask for clarification, help and support as needed. It is equally important for students to contribute their ideas to classroom discussions. By ensuring they are actively engaged, each student will build a strong foundation for success.
Devices - keeping their mobile devices switched off and in their bags during the school day. This will help to avoid any unnecessary distractions and promote social interaction.
Sleep - ensuring they get at least 8 to 9 hours of sleep each night. Not using devices for an hour before going to sleep is always helpful. Arriving at school fresh and ready to learn is vital.
A good conversation at home may be focused around the healthy routines and habits that your child has established, and any areas they would like to improve on.
Thank you for your ongoing support and have an enjoyable weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark

Year 10 & 11 Message
The Year 11 formal was a wonderful occasion on Monday evening. We were proud of the students who organised and ran an event that students enjoyed. There was high-energy on the dance floor, lots of effort getting dressed up and a great spirit on the night.
On Tuesday, all students have their first Challenge Week meeting where they will meet the staff member running their activity and learn all about the experience planned for them in November.
Year 10 students are near the halfway point in their learning for their GCSE subjects, and this time next year, they will be heading off on study leave. This is a good point to ensure that regular habits are in place. Consistent sleep routines, regular study/revision times and places alongside healthy eating and exercise will set students up for success.
Year 10 and 11 will attend an assembly on Wednesday where we will farewell Year 11 and wish them luck for their exams.
Year 11 have their last day of formal lessons on Wednesday April 22nd. After that, they are on study leave and can choose to study in the LRC at school or from home. Their teachers are available during regular timetabled periods, so long as students let them know ahead of time. If coming into school, students must be in full uniform and swipe in as usual. They may leave when they are ready or when they have completed an exam, but we have told them that once they arrive at school, they need to remain until they are finished for the day.
The detailed exam timetable is available here.
All exam regulations are here.
In the event of severe rain or weather, e.g. Red or Black rain, advise your child to monitor their email. We will communicate any changes to routine asap.
Please help your child to get organised with their equipment and calendar to ensure they are at school at least 20 minutes before each exam with all the correct equipment.
We wish our Year 11 students all the best as they take on these external exams.
Exams next week are:

Years 7 | 8 | 9
Please find below important updates for Years 7–9, including information on upcoming projects, trips, and guidance on maintaining effective student routines.
ESF Transportation Survey
The ESF-wide survey on transportation to school is currently live. Students are expected to complete this survey during tutor time. The data collected will help inform future planning and sustainability initiatives across the foundation, and we appreciate students' thoughtful input.
Effective Routines for Success
As we move further into the final term, establishing and maintaining effective routines is essential for student wellbeing and academic progress. For students in Years 7–9, we encourage a focus on the following areas:
Organisation and Punctuality: Success starts with being prepared. We encourage students to pack their bags the night before and ensure they arrive at school and their lessons promptly.
Active Engagement: Being present is more than just physical attendance; it is about active participation in discussions and tasks during lessons.
Digital Discipline: Maintaining healthy boundaries with devices is crucial. We encourage students to have "device-free" periods outside of school, especially during social times and before bed.
Quality Sleep: Consistent sleep patterns are vital for the physical and cognitive development of students in this age group. Aiming for 8–9 hours of rest helps ensure students are refreshed and ready for the day ahead.
Year 9 Updates
Community Project Action Week
The Year 9 Community Project Action Week is approaching in May. Our students have been working hard during Empower lessons to prepare a wide range of engagements, including advocacy campaigns and donation drives both within and beyond the school. We encourage parents to check in with their children about their specific projects and provide support where possible as they move into the "action" phase.
Ocean Park Trip
The Year 9 trip to Ocean Park is scheduled for Monday, June 22nd. Permission letters have been distributed to students today. Please check in with your child to ensure you have received the details and return the necessary documentation.
IGCSE Options
A reminder that if there are any requested changes to Year 9 subject options for next year, these should be communicated via email directly to Mr. Kent.
Limitless Program
We would like to wish the best of luck to our Year 9 students embarking on the "Limitless" program. These students will be away from school for six weeks. To prepare, they will be out of regular lessons this coming Monday for a pre-trip training day held here at KGV. We are sure they will have a transformative experience.
Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting our students.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope you all enjoyed a restful and restorative Easter break and had the opportunity to reconnect with family and friends. It has been wonderful to see our campus come alive again this week; there is a tangible energy in the air as our students return with a renewed sense of purpose for the final stretch of the academic year.
Celebrating our Year 13s
Wednesday, marked the final day for our Year 13 cohort. The celebrations began with a special hot breakfast served by senior staff, followed by a high-spirited "lap of honour" through the school. The day concluded with a final assembly led by our Head Prefects, reflecting on seven years of growth and achievement. As they begin their formal study leave, we wish this remarkable group of students the very best of luck with their upcoming examinations.
Foundations for Success: The Power of Routine
As we look ahead, particularly for our Year 12s and 13s, I’d like to mention the vital role of consistent habits. Whether preparing for internal assessments or external IB/BTEC exams, the "invisible" work done at home is what builds confidence.
To support our students, I would encourage you to help them refine their daily routines in these five key areas:
Organisation: Ensure study spaces are decluttered and that students are clear on their personal revision timetables.
Punctuality: Arriving "in the room" on time—whether for a lesson or a study session—sets a professional tone for the day and reduces anxiety.
Engagement: Active revision (practising past papers) is far more effective than passive reading. Encourage them to stay curious and reach out to teachers with specific questions.
Devices: We recommend a "digital sunset"—keeping devices out of the bedroom to ensure the brain has time to decompress.
Sleep: A well-rested mind retains information far more effectively than one fueled by late-night caffeine!
We are incredibly proud of how our students have settled back in. Thank you for your continued partnership in supporting their journey.
