Principal's Message
Dear KGV Families,
I trust you have enjoyed a good week. As we reach the final few weeks of this academic year, we arrive at the time where we reflect on and celebrate this year whilst planning for next academic year.
Teachers are currently working on the written end of year reports for Y7, 8, 9, 10 and 12. These will give a detailed and holistic insight to your child’s progress in each subject and inform conversations at home as goals are set for next year. Reports will be released during the last week of term.
We also have wonderful celebratory moments coming up, starting with the Summer Concert on Tuesday 9th June at 5.30pm, and then our Sports Awards on Wednesday 17th June. These events provide a great opportunity to showcase the abilities and success of our remarkable students, and I look forward to seeing parents there.
Our leadership team has been planning for next academic year, with stakeholder survey results being used to inform our enhancement agenda. The introduction of the ESF Hub provides us with a key focus as we build consistent approaches to curriculum development, assessment and feedback. Communication and engagement with parents is also a key part of this planning. More information will be shared towards the end of term.
Thank you for your ongoing support and have an enjoyable weekend ahead.
Best regards,
Mark Poulsum
Dear Families,
Please find below important updates regarding campus expectations during the warmer weather, final reminders for our upcoming Year 9 graduation events, and critical identification requirements for the Ocean Park trip.
Managing the Heat and Campus Behaviour
As we face warmer days on campus, we encourage parents to support their children by ensuring they bring reusable water bottles to school every day. Staying hydrated is essential during this season.
However, we need to address some unacceptable behaviours that have occurred recently. We have dealt with a few instances of students bringing water balloons to school, squirting water bottles at each other, or filling their mouths with water to spit at others. While we understand the weather is hot, this is not permitted at school and falls well short of our behaviour expectations. We ask parents to firmly remind students that these actions are not allowed on campus.
Year 9 Community Project Celebration and Graduation
Our Year 9 Community Project Celebration, Exhibition, and MYP Graduation will take place on Monday, 15th June. We are very much looking forward to welcoming registered parents to campus and celebrating the hard work, learning, and positive community impact our students have achieved over the last three years.
Year 9 Ocean Park Trip: ID Card Requirement
Ahead of the Year 9 field trip to Ocean Park on Tuesday, 23rd June, please note that all participating students must have a valid school student ID card to enter the park.
If your child has lost or misplaced their student ID card, they must contact Mr. Tranter, Senior Head of Year, before Thursday, 11th June. This will allow the school enough time to arrange and print a replacement card before the trip. Students who do not have a valid ID card may face issues with entry, so please check this with your child this weekend.
Thank you for your continued cooperation and support in keeping our school environment safe, respectful, and well-organised.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The campus dynamic has shifted. With our Year 13s officially departed, the spotlight has moved squarely onto our Year 12 students. They are no longer just coasting through the senior school pipeline, as of right now, they are the senior leaders of the KGV student community.
While it can be easy to fall into a false sense of security about summer because final certificates aren't being handed out this month, the choices made during this window are critical. The routines, focus, and study habits your child establishes over these final weeks will be the very foundation that prevents an academic crisis this time next year. Furthermore, there is no sugarcoating the immediate high stakes: the work produced throughout this term directly informs the predicted grades used for their upcoming university and career applications.
Our faculty members are currently busy finalising the written end-of-year reports for Year 12. Rather than viewing these as a simple retrospective of the past year, we look at them as a personalised strategy guide for the final stretch of the IB/BTEC journey.
Holistic Insights: These documents offer a detailed, deep-dive perspective into your child’s current progress in every subject.
Conversations That Matter: We highly encourage parents to use these reports as a neutral, data-driven tool to spark constructive conversations at home, helping to co-set clear, actionable goals before the new academic year begins.
Logistics: The final evaluations will be officially released to families during the last week of term.
Wishing you all a lovely weekend.
We have had conversations with a number of students this week, helping them get a healthy perspective on assessments and understand that these are opportunities to get feedback. Please watch out for any undue signs of anxiety and ensure your child keeps assessments in perspective, treating them as stepping stones towards their final exams this time next year.
Year 11 students are getting close to the end of their external exams. Next week we have:
The following Monday, 15th June is our final exam for the year - Physics (Triple and Single Science).
