Today's Topic - Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
Did you know these 5 Fast Facts About Attention/Hyperactivity Disorder, most commonly known as ADHD?
There is more than one type of ADHD, with the main types being hyperactivity, inattention, and impulsivity.
ADHD is genetic.
There is no cure for ADHD, but medication, personalised strategies, and therapy can help.
ADHD often persists into adulthood.
Approximately 5-16% of children (aged 4-17) worldwide have a diagnosis of ADHD.
Individuals with ADHD commonly face challenges in maintaining attention, organising tasks effectively, adhering to instructions, and sustaining focus during mentally demanding activities. They may exhibit hyperactive and impulsive behaviours, including fidgeting, restlessness, experiencing difficulty in waiting their turn, and frequently speaking out of turn. Nevertheless, it is crucial to acknowledge that the traits of ADHD can manifest differently from one person to another.
There are many strengths and benefits of having ADHD, with it being coined a ‘Super power’. An individual with ADHD must learn about their traits to maximise them to their fullest, with a supportive school playing a huge part in this journey.
“ADHD Super Powers may include hyperfocus, resilience, creativity, conversational skills, spontaneity, and abundant energy. Many people view these benefits as “superpowers” because those with ADHD can hone them to their advantage.”
Some recommended strategies:
Wear noise-cancelling headphones or earplugs to block out distractions
Set yourself realistic deadlines and tell others if the deadline is unrealistic for you
Schedule regular movement breaks to alert or calm your nervous system
Use a calendar/diary
Establish a regulated sleep routine
Use visuals to map out your thinking
Chunk up demands and activities - approach a task one step at a time

Dear Years 13s,
Here is your 2025 KGV IB EXAM SCHEDULE. We advise you NOT TO DOWNLOAD it. It is a live document and there still may be some updates/changes to be made to it.

IBO have also updated their list of banned technology during exams to include all smart, wearable technology. Further information regarding the 2 hour supervision and banned devices can be found in the presentation.

Neurodiversity Celebration Week begins today, 17 March 2025! This global event is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about neurodiversity and celebrate our diverse community.
Neurodiversity refers to the unique ways people's brains work when learning, interacting, and experiencing the world. It recognises neurological differences such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, dyscalculia, Tourette’s syndrome, "giftedness," and more.
At our inclusive school, we support students and staff, ensuring personalised and accessible experiences—many of which are accommodated "behind the scenes." Did you know that at least 9.7% of KGV's student community is neurodiverse? This number would be higher if we included the adults, too.
As part of Neurodiversity Celebration Week, we'll share daily information through the school bulletin and during tutor time, as well as in Science, English, Maths, and I&S classes. Please take 5 minutes each day to engage with the bulletin posts to learn about neurodiversity and promote inclusion at KGV.
During this week, we encourage you to engage with the various visuals around the school, explore our recommended reads in the LRC, and visit our art exhibition in the front office. KGV proudly stands as one of nine schools across Hong Kong collaborating with Optism, a local organisation promoting autism inclusivity through art.

Dear Students and Parents currently in year 8. Although the Academy programme begins in year 8, we currently have a few places open for current year 8 students to join as they go into year 9. Interested students should join the Music Academy Auditions Google Classroom to submit their application/audition. Deadline for applications is Monday 31st March.
The Music Academy is an alternative arts curriculum pathway for gifted and talented KGV musicians where students have the opportunity to develop their musicianship to a much deeper level, working alongside other high-level musicians.
Looking further ahead, students that can achieve approximately grade 5+ standard by year 11, often score the very top marks at IGCSE Music, particularly in the performance part of the course. The Music Academy is an excellent opportunity to develop many of these skills in preparation for both IGCSE and IB Music.
If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Leung at (melody.leung@kgv.edu.hk)

Dear Students
We are delighted to announce that KGV will be staging an adaptation of Animal Farm for its whole school play in November 2025. The intention is that this will be performed using a mixture of life-sized puppets for the main roles, masked performers for the smaller roles, and animated backdrops.
We are really excited by the whole venture and want to make it the best we have done in years – big, loud, brash, fast-paced, hard-hitting, with high production values.
Rehearsals will take place on Wednesdays and Thursdays after school from mid-September (not during Challenge Week). Scripts will be issued before the summer holiday, and there is an expectation you know your lines BEFORE we start rehearsals. There will also be rehearsals on Saturdays 15th and 22nd November. You must be able to attend all rehearsals to be offered a role.
For those of you who will be in Years 12 and 13, it can be used for CAS, obviously.
This round of auditions, which is for main characters, will be open to Current Y9, Y10, 11 and 12. (Students in Y7 and Y8 will be invited to audition in the summer term).
Auctions will take place on Wednesday 19th and Thursday 20th March, 1.35 pm in DS402.
Please wear clothes you can move in (not your school uniform), as this will be a physical audition.
If you would like to audition, please complete this quick Google Form so we know which day to expect to see you at the auditions.
Thank you
The Drama Team

Please continue to liaise with your teachers regarding these dates. However, they should be in line with this new schedule.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
